The Role of Auto Body Shops

By:

Sometimes it is important to answer the simplest of questions first. What auto body shops do is about the simplest and a good place to learn about the industry.

When it comes to cars, the best approach to getting the right fix is to visit a specialist. While an alignment professional can certainly take care of tire problems, he or she probably is going to have problems handling any problems with the electrical system in your car. As the name suggests, auto body shops specialize in fixing the exterior elements of your car. From rust to dents to massive damage from accidents, an auto body shop is where you are going to find the person to return the look of your car back to normal.

So, what exactly do auto body shops do for you? Well, just about anything related to the body of your car. They can do simple things like pop out dents and remove scratches. On the other end of the spectrum, they can also take “bent” car frames and straighten them out. For the older car, you can get services ranging from repainting to the removal of areas that have decayed from rust and general wear and tear. If you are looking for an upgrade, they can also trick out your ride.

Technically, there are three other aspects to the complete restoration of the damaged automobile. The first is glass replacement. Broken windows are usually the standard in a major collision. The second factor is repainting of the auto. The areas damaged, and holes filled must be sanded and primed and a new paint job applied to the car. Finally, mechanical damage must be repaired to return the car to running condition.

These three things, glass replacement, repainting, and mechanical repair are often done in the auto body shop. In some cases, they may be done in separate shops that specialize in one of the areas. This will depend on the size of the shop, and the expertise of the employees. In the past, smaller shops that were often one man operations were more common. The current trend has been toward integrated shops that provide complete service under one roof.

The appearance of your car should be important to you. A car says something about the driver. A run down beat up car is probably not delivering the message you really want to go out to other people. An auto body shop can help you change that message to something more positive.
