The Joys of a Barbecue Grill

By: Evangelina Lunsford

You probably already own a barbecue grill if you have a patio or a backyard. The barbecue grill is more important that anything else around the house. Traditionally, it is the male's job to grill the meat. Cooking meat on an open flame satisfies the caveman part of the brain.

The smell of the meat on the fire is enough to make anyone hungry.

There is a large variety of size and shapes of barbecue grills. For those with small spaces, a table-top grill can grill meat just as well as the larger models.

Prices vary, with the larger stainless steel models going for more than two thousand dollars. When it comes down to the basics, a barbecue grill cooks meat. But, some have so many other accessories and additions that they look ready to take off and fly. Some grills can also smoke meat, with a specialized smoker accessory.

A grill should always be purchased with your particular needs in mind, and not just because it's the latest and greatest. One thing you need to ask yourself when looking at grills is: What size does one want or need? Meat racks can be small, maybe enough to cook two steaks, or large enough to cook for a large party.

You can cook any kind of meat on a barbecue grill, from chicken, beef, and pork, to even fish. There are ways that can enhance the flavors. You can choose from many different sauces in which to marinated the meat overnight to add the desired taste. When it is taken out to the barbecue grill, the aroma is mouth watering.

You can spice the meat while it is cooking. There are many spices available to the customer. You can even get spices that are made for a particular kind of meat.

You don't want a flare-up to ruin your meat, so watch out for them. Almost all barbecue grills come with a lid. When cooking meat that drips often, keeping the lid closed while cooking will stop the flare up.

One still has to keep an eye out for trouble, but with the barbecue grill lid down, flare ups are minimized. Finally, knowing the amount of time it takes to cook a specific type and size of meat, you can then cook the meat to whatever one likes. You don't want meat to be underdone and then blushingly having to fire up the barbecue again.

Keeping a sharp knife handy is a good idea for now and again checking how done the meat is on the inside. Having a good idea of the time needed to properly barbecue a piece of meat goes a long way towards a successful barbecue. Don't overcook the pieces, it tastes bad and looks even worse.
