Job Interview Shoes. Some Hints as to How to Put your Best Foot Forward.

By: Sharon Francis

Apart from being on punctual, being smartly dressed for a job interview, and that includes your shoes, is of utmost importance, irrespective of the type of job one is being interviewed for…so don’t forget about your shoes as they may be the most visible item of your interview attire! It is utmost importance one appears smart and well presented. This indicates to the interviewer that you are serious about the job in hand and you will have the self confidence to follow through.

Here are a few hints as to what shoes are deemed suitable for an interview... and the shoes should definitely be avoided.

There is far more choice in shoe style for women than for men on the market, however that choice is narrowed down to some extent when it comes to choosing that ideal shoe for an interview. Ladies and Gentlemen, when choosing a shoe, make sure the following points are bourne in mind:

- For Women-

- Make sure that the heel is a 'manageable' height as teetering into a room on too high heels will definitely not give the right impression to your potential future employer. Choose a low heel and above all comfortable shoe or a traditional black classic leather ballet style pump, which may be more suitable for a person who is taller. Interviews often take place over a whole day so donning a shoe that is not comfortable will take your mind off the task at hand.
- A solid colour is chosen, preferably black, navy or brown, and the colour of the shoe should match any accessories that are worn.
- Choose leather court shoes, preferably with a closed toe, with a traditional classic look. Black leather sling back style shoes may add a bit more variety and class to the outfit but make sure they are not too overzealous. Do however choose a shoe that is current with the fashion trends where possible.

A Few Suggestions:

Route 66
Root Toot Lace Up
Pure Bow T-bar from Schuh
Aver by Rockport

-For Men-

- Black is the best colour for shoes being worn to an interview...and they must be leather. If shoes aren’t black then make sure that they match the belt.
- Choose quality, even if they cost more. There are a number of classic black leather shoes that will not go out of fashion, and if they are good quality the user should get many, many years use from them.

A Few Suggestions:

Men’s Berlin-Brandenburg Rust by ECCO
South Ferry Men's Shoes by Rockport
Rockport Migrate by Rockport
Collins Men's Shoe by Frank Wright
Original Trilby Four Eye Side Lace Formal Shoe by Ikon

-For Both-

-If a pair of brand new shoes is out of your budget then use a pair that you already have but take care that they are in top condition, clean and polished with no scuffs….

Avoid wearing sandals with a suit, shoes that have a chunky look, toe, sole or heel, rubber soles, plastic shoes, casual shoes, loafers, anything metallic or sparkly, canvas, tie shoes, floral or brightly coloured shoes, heels that are too high.

Of course the job that one is applying for will have an effect on which type or style of shoe should be chosen butif one sticks to the guides above then one should be well on the way to getting a foot in the door!
